Please Redirect Your Eyes (and Browsers)

October 1, 2010

Miami’s Restaurant Power Rankings, which you could always access by going to miamirankings.com and then you’d be forwarded to this free site, is now hosted on miamirankings.com.  In other words, we’re now wearing our big boy pants.  So please redirect your bookmarks, your RSS feeds, your links, and your eyeballs to www.miamirankings.com.  The new blog is not finished quite yet but enough of the scaffolding is off that you can now visit.  Thanks!

September 28, 2010 Power Rankings

September 28, 2010

This week’s quick hits:

♦ Hey Esquire magazine, come up with your own shtick (and it’s not really a power ranking unless it fluctuates; otherwise it is just a plain old “ranking”).

♦ Marc Vidal has left Solea at the W Hotel, and Miami as well.  Off to NYC, which I hear has a burgeoning food scene.

♦ Burger Beast has left the Miami Street Food Fest.   Still working on signing him up for the Food Truck Demolition Derby.

September 21, 2010 Power Rankings

September 21, 2010

This week’s quick hits:

♦ Sustain Restaurant + Bar announces that they’re planning to open in late November.  I’m fully in favor of restaurants that use mathematical symbols in their names, in case you’re wondering.  But I’d like to see more variety than just the “restaurant + bar” or “bar + grill.”  How about “Sustain Restaurant ÷ Kitchen x (Bathroom+ Pantry)”?  Or “Michael’s Genuine Food + Drink + Drink + Drink + Drink + Drink + Deviled Eggs.”

♦ Eater Miami has received a “Save the Date” for the November 5th opening of db Bistro Moderne, located in the Met2 building in the heart of Downtown Miami.  In other news, MRPR received a “Make Sure You Make Other Plans on November 5th” postcard in the mail from Daniel Boulud.  I guess he hasn’t forgot this post.

♦ Latin Burger & Taco Truck shall henceforth be known as Burger & Taco Truck.

♦ And last but not least, this week’s rankings.  No changes to report.

The Eismann Leaveth?

September 9, 2010

Last November, when this blog was in its infancy, we reported that Pacific Time/Pizzavolante chef Jonathan Eismann was set to open two more restaurants in the Design District, bringing the total to 4 restaurants in a one block radius (a/k/a the Starbucks theory).

Well, after closing Pacific Time a few months back, Pizzavolante and Q are now up for sale.  Check out the listings here and here.

It feels like an eternity since Chef Eismann announced he’d be opening restaurants five and six in the Design District.  And now, unfortunately, it seems like things are in contraction mode.

September 7, 2010 Power Rankings

September 7, 2010

Some quick hits:

♦ If you’ve ever been to Two Chefs and wondered what it’d be like if they added a third chef, you’re in luck.  A place called “3 Chefs Chinese Restaurant” is opening next door to Bin No. 18 and Sake Room Sushi Lounge on 18th and Biscayne.  That’s a lot of chefs.  Good thing that there isn’t an old adage about having too many cooks in a kitchen.  Also, no word on whether it’s related to a place of the same name in NYC (which appears to serve vegetarian Chinese cuisine).

♦ Minibar, in the old Charcuterie space in the Design District, is closed.  The whole shtick of this place was that it served diminutive food (think sliders, chicken nuggets, mini pizzas, etc.).  Definitely not to be confused with Jose Andres’ minibar in Washington, D.C.

♦ Check out Fall for the Arts next Sunday afternoon at the Arsht Center.  All of the food trucks will be there and MRPR will be hosting the first annual Food Truck Demolition Derby.  I’ve got my money on Dim Ssam a Go Go.  Here’s a sneak peak of the new truck.
