Daniel Boulud Saves Miami

March 3, 2010

Daniel Boulud was in town for the South Beach Wine & Food Festival this past weekend, where he was honored during an exclusive (and by that I mean stupid expensive) tribute dinner.  He took the opportunity to re-announce the opening of his first foray into Miami dining, db Bistro Moderne at the Met2.  And then he saved Miami dining, all in one fell swoop.

In a display of New York imperialism, Boulud announces in a video clip on NBC Miami’s Feast blog that his restaurant will be the “only gig” in downtown Miami because there are just some fast food restaurants in downtown Miami and then “a couple” of restaurants on Brickell.  And that’s it, according to Boulud.  I didn’t realize that Azul, Acqua, Atrio, Capital Grille, Miami Chop House, Il Gabbiano, and Area 31 all closed down.  I missed that.  And isn’t Zuma opening in the Epic hotel?

As Sun Tzu says, “Always underestimate your adversaries.”
