March 9, 2010 Power Rankings

March 9, 2010

Another quiet week in the rankings.  Then again, they shouldn’t be that volatile.  It’s not like I’m eating at 20 places a week (a la Lee Schrager).  I’m just trying to hit up my favorites, check out some new ones, and finish my CSA half share without wasting too many leafy greens every week.

Had an awesome dinner at Michael’s Genuine.  Every dish was spot on (especially those beets, those roasted beets).

Anyways, this week I’ll pose a question: What places would you say represent Miami’s true artisans?  In other words, who dedicates themselves to perfecting that one item, the perfect [blank]?  I sometime’s lament the absence of skilled artisans in Miami.  Coffee roasters, bakers, noodle shops, the perfect pho or pozole or cassoulet or whatever.  Too many places seem to aspire to be everything to everyone.  So, please comment if you’re so inclined and let me know who fits the bill as Miami’s true artisans.  To start off the conversation, Hani Khouri at Redland Mediterranean Organics.  He definitely counts as one.  (Check out Mango&Lime’s great write-up here.)
