That Guy From Top Chef To Open In Miami’s Burbs

April 6, 2010

If, like me, you grew up in the burbs (specifically Kendall), then you’ve been to a Bahama Breeze or two in your day.  Romano’s Macaroni Grill, check.  To us, a more “local” spot is the [Fill-in-the-Blank] Ale House because it has the name of our very suburb in the title.  Life. Is. Good.

But life might be better when Top Cheffer Fabio Vivani comes to town (hat tip: Eater Miami).   Vivani, who is fresh off a not-so-flattering review in the LA Times (“a menu so conventional it reads like a tourist trap,” “Italian Food for Dummies,” zero stars), says in an interview with a website called Yumsugar that he and his business partner “have deals in place in Chicago and Miami; we are trying to do some more locations. We want to be in suburbs, not downtown — I need loyal people, community.”

Having left Kendall (I like to think of the Snapper Creek Expressway as a one-way street), I’m now one of those fickle, unloyal urbanites.  But apparently, the suburbs remain a bastion of loyalists (Kendall took up arms for the Brits, I believe).

Detractors might say that this so-called “loyalty” is bred by a lack of real food options, but I say long live the [Dairy] Queen.
