Miami Spice Power Rankings

August 12, 2010

In honor of Miami Spice, here’s a special edition of the Power Rankings.  The top 10 Miami Spice dinner menus are listed below.

[Disclaimer: The more I learn about Miami Spice, the more uncomfortable I am.  Did you know that participating restaurants have to pay a membership to join the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau in order to participate?  Perhaps the City should run Miami Spice, or chefs should get together and plan it themselves.  Chefs of the world, unite!]

And here’s the list (click the links to see the menus):

1. BLT Steak (not available Fridays, Saturdays)

2. Michy’s (not available Saturdays, Mondays)

3. Solea

4. Azul (not available Saturdays)

5. Bourbon Steak

6. The Restaurant at The Setai

7. Petit Rouge

8. Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill (not available Fridays, Saturdays)

9. Charlotte Bistro

10. Sra. Martinez (not available Saturdays)

Not only do they have to pay to be a member of the GCVB but I’ve been told that there’s another fee to participate in Miami Spice. I’ve heard a $2,000 figure for both I think or maybe just for one … who knows?

Wow, that’s outrageous, Paula. Even if it is just $2,000 and not $4,000 that’s a hefty sum. You’d think there would be a County or City tourism board that is publicly funded behind Miami Spice rather than a private membership organization.

Jordan–Good catch. What began as a more ambitious list of 20 quickly became a more realist list of 10. I’ve just edited the post to fix that. If you’ve got any favorite menus I missed, please list them in the comments.
